Medford residents closer to have a choice of Verizon FiOS

Two years after it stopped the expansion of the fiber-optic Internet and television networks, Verizon has been applied to the city for a license to bring high-speed service to most Medford neighborhood.

General Assembly scheduled for 7 pm tonight at Town Hall, where officials will present coverage of Verizon service, known as FiOS, which will be available to 71 percent Medford homes and businesses.

The agreement between the city and Verizon also requires the two sides continue to negotiate to extend service to areas west of Medford have cable, Mayor Michael j. McGlynn.

In 2009, after years of requests from city officials, Verizon began negotiating with the city to license cable TV. Comcast just currently offers cable television in Medford, Massachusetts. Some homes and businesses as well as subscribe to satellite service, DirecTV and Dish Network, McGlynn said.

U.S. Secretary of Education

U.s. Education Secretary Arne Duncan stop by South High School in Minneapolis Friday morning to advise students to take steps to get into college and to get it done, and tells them what his Department is doing to help.

I have an affinity technique. I love taking things apart and I was also very good in math. I grew up thinking I was going to build bridges or dams in Africa.

All of a sudden I went to College and realized I was fascinated by technology. It was the 1980s, during fiberoptic technology and telecommunications Revolution. I was fascinated by the whole thing.

I discovered early in my career that I am not really good at the business opportunities. I was responsible for business development with France Telecom, and I am looking for ways to expand the company.

We ended up buying a video broadcasting companies rent space on a satellite to broadcast video signal between Europe and the United States. We bought it just before the Gulf war because I knew the news aggregator will need to restore the video feeds from around the world.
