Our heart health: plenty of room for improvement

December 15, 2011-among the seven factors for heart health, almost all Americans have at least one factor in the level of “poor”.

“We have seen a dramatic decline in deaths due to heart disease and stroke,” said researcher Donald Lloyd-Jones, MD, ScM, Chair of preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

While there is a reason to celebrate that progress, he said, “we have a large tsunami that threatens us. That is the obesity epidemic, which has been with us for 25 years. We look at the forefront of this tsunami that will reverse many of the gains we have achieved in the last 40 years. “

“We need to get serious about the obesity epidemic yesterday,” he tells WebMD.
